Distinctive Unit Insignia


Description/Blazon
A gold color metal and enamel device 1 1/8 inches in height overall consisting of a keystone with alternating squares of gold and crimson enamel, in center a vertical black enamel band with a gold quill, all above a gold scroll bearing the inscription "SUPPORTERS OF THE ELITE" in black letters.

Symbolism
The shape of the keystone symbolizes the support the unit offers and the checky alludes to the orderly performance of the unit's mission. The fold quill refers to the outstanding ability of the unit to direct technical operations, supervise and train attached maintenance units. The array of white is symbolic of the wheat fields of Kansas, the headquarters of the unit while it also alludes to the units record of maintaining and supporting with abundance. Crimson and yellow are colors used by Maintenance.

The distinctive unit insignia was approved on 16 Jun 1967.
